		<description>Well I don&#039;t follow NHL very closely but I do follow social media and the one thing I will say is that I have seen the NHL beinh held up about 5 times as a great example of using social media so somebody in there is doing something right and raising the profile of social media ll over the world!</description>

		<description>I really hope Balsillie or how ever you spell his name actually gets a team.  I know the owners don&#039;t like his tactics but the guy has passion and having passion is half the battle.  Imagine someone in Canada fighting for a team.  I am an American and I work in the arena.  So I am kind of spoiled... okay really spoiled.

The Internet has made it easy for people to gain free content.  Which people can appreciate.  The problem is the pay channels aren&#039;t that sexy anymore.  The NHL needs to get back on ESPN.  TSN does a great job with coverage.

We could go back and forth for years discussing this.  I don&#039;t think there will be any answers until new leadership takes over.</description>

		<description>Nice post, Jamie. I think what has happened over the last 10 years is that the NHL has regressed in popularity to the point where it has major challenges selling content (I think it sits just above synchronized swimming in terms of viewership). Conversely, other pro sports have increased in popularity, presenting them with the opportunity to sell niche content. My sense is that the NHL will do anything to draw more eyes to the game, even if that means loosening up their stance on copyrighted material. 

Another thing the NHL could do to increase its popularity (full disclosure - I am Canadian), is move some teams back to Canada where the NHL is a commodity that can sell. 

So let&#039;s hope Social Media can save the NHL, but I think it&#039;s going to need a bit more of a boost than that.

At the same time when I had the opportunity to sit with some of our technicians as they viewed this particular series, they were thrilled.  As I spoke with them about the Verizon ads, and the hurt that was in their eyes because those ads were very much directed at their work.  They were so happy to see the company they work for standing up for them.

We all take pride in the work that we do.  I am a simple service person, but some of my work has been very public.  I can tell you I am always hurt when someone directs their negativity at me personally.  I am always happy to assist anyone, but that can make it difficult.  I know how our techs feel when they see these ads, and I am glad there was a direct response.  At the same time, I do not think any company should concentrate their efforts to differentiate themselves by negatively talking about hard working people.

These are my personal thoughts, and I am sure others may disagree.</description>

I am very active in the digital scene in Detroit.  I attend many digital events even though I am not in the field.  I did find out who were the supporters and who were on the fence and in the conversation with Chris Brogan I realized bloggers don&#039;t like journalists as much as journalists don&#039;t like public relations people.

I am an evangelist for this cause.  I know because if I did a Twitter search for the #Journchat with in 25 miles of Detroit I would be the only one in it.
