I plan on doing an event page once I get people involved and their is already the #journchat group page set up. So I guess the question is what happens from there? Since this is a tiny division of the group.

I am sure more of what could happen will be discussed on Monday in the #journchat. I guess I can’t miss a discussion on Twitter now.

I agree with Mike, set up a Facebook page to gauge interest. You can start researching venues now, finding out how many people they can accommodate. I’m sure other Detroit people on twitter will help with opinions on venues. Once you have a rough number, you can solidify the venue.

Don’t worry about not being in the field. Think of yourself as the facilitator.

I will check into the journalist thing and then I will continue to ask questions and get feedback on Twitter and Facebook and you are probably right I will be getting some help from Sarah Evans. So this is good.

Looks like you have a good start. Just continue trying your best, get others who may be interested to give their $0.02 and help with suggestions and spread the word.

My question is… I am not hired directly to anyone. I guess you could say I freelance but still NOT in the field.? So how would I go about doing this?

Jamie,
Is there a Society of Professional Journalists (SPA) in Detroit that could help sponsor (in-kind) and help promote the event to its members?

For location, I’m sure there are enough other pros in Detroit who can suggest a place.

For events, Facebook has been great for the few I’ve been involved in to gauge # people coming, though I know Linkedin also has event features.

As you get details, please do post. If the location isn’t too from Toledo, I’ll do what I can to spread the word here.
